Merrimack County Telephone Company was organized on May 20, 1896 with the filing of Articles of Agreement with the New Hampshire Secretary of State. These articles were then recorded in the office of the Sutton Town Clerk the following day. Article II states: "The object for which this corporation is established is the construction and operation of a telephone line in Bradford, Sutton, New London, Newbury and other towns within the County of Merrimack, State of New Hampshire.”
